Date & Time

Description
Trauma can manifest itself in a variety of ways, often times presenting as depression, anxiety, and anger - things we can see. These symptoms are often the tip of the iceberg and don’t respond to algorithmic approaches. If we don’t address trauma's underlying 'fire in the basement,' the fire grows and becomes harder to extinguish. If we can identity trauma early on as the underlying cause and implement evidence-based treatment modalities to put out the fire, we can significantly improve a patient’s quality of life. This presentation will focus on the neurobiology of trauma, pharmacotherapy, therapeutic modalities and resilience.

Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1) Define the neurobiology associated with trauma response.
2) Explain the therapeutic modalities and mechanisms of medications we commonly use to treat traumatic stress.
3) Define resilience.
