Tracy Donegan is the Chief Information and Innovation Officer at Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital, a “green-field” hospital that opened in July 2015 to serve a Los Angeles community designated by the Department of Health and Human Services as both a Health Professional Shortage Area and a Medically Underserved Area. Ms. Donegan served a critical role in standing up the hospital’s Health IT organization from a blank slate, helping to design and implement the hospital’s $70 million IT infrastructure and application portfolio. In 2017 the hospital received the Health Care’s Most Wired® award and in 2018 achieved Level 7 of the HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model – a level of adoption achieved by only 6.4% of the hospitals in the United States. To showcase the hospital’s technology innovations and fully integrated and interoperable electronic health record, Ms. Donegan produced a Larry King segment that aired on the Fox Business Network in 2016.
Ms. Donegan has over 20 years of diverse experience in the healthcare industry. She has served in leadership as well as healthcare consulting roles as a trusted client advisor and partner. She has led large teams and programs in a number of provider segments, including multi-specialty medical group practices, health systems, durable medical equipment, and homecare providers. Ms. Donegan’s road to Health IT stemmed from her success in delivering organizational transformations as a result of large-scale initiatives concentrated on business process improvement and the implementation of technology solutions.
Prior to joining the hospital, Ms. Donegan was the Assistant Vice President and Partner of the Cognizant Healthcare Provider Consulting Practice. She also previously served in a leadership role as Vice President of Strategy Management and Alignment at Apria Healthcare. Earlier in her career, after earning a Master of Health Administration degree from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, she spent several years consulting at BearingPoint, formerly KPMG Consulting.
Ms. Donegan has dedicated herself to volunteering efforts focused on mentoring graduate students and early careerists. She is a member of Cornell University's Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network and is frequently invited to lecture at the University of Southern California and a number of campuses in the California State University system. Ms. Donegan is an active member of American College of Healthcare Executives as a volunteer in their Bridge Roads Program for early careerists and serves as a member of the Executive Board of Healthcare Financial Management Association’s Southern California Chapter.
