Dr. Francisco Rhein, MD is the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for Dignity Healthy Bay Area Service Area. Dr. Rhein is passionate about improving the experience of care for both providers and patients with health information technology, aligned with improved quality and safety. Current projects include implementation and optimization of the Cerner EMR and associated tools and apps, improving health information exchange (HIE) and interoperability with data partners including external health systems and HIEs within the Bay area community, and supporting emerging patient engagement technology efforts for patients across the continuum of care including personalized web experience, EHR patient portal and telemedicine.

Dr. Rhein received his medical degree near his hometown from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, then completed residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He is currently board certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He continues some clinical practice and works as a hospitalist in Santa Cruz, California.
