Dr. Milligan serves as Senior Vice President and both CIO and CMIO for Asante Health System. As such, he develops and leads the implementation of strategic plans for all enterprise-wide Information Services, Networks, Telecommunications, Clinical Informatics, Infrastructure, Health Information Services, Analytics and Information Security. He is an Epic Physician Builder with certifications in Basic, Analytics and Orders. He has served as a Director on a number of healthcare boards including Ashland Community Hospital, Asante Physician Partners, Propel Health and the Asante health system board. He is a frequent contributor to a variety of healthcare IT industry related periodicals, podcasts and live presentations.
He joined Asante in 2000 and has served in progressive leadership roles before his current position including Medical Director of Informatics, Medical Director of CDI and Physician Informaticist. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He has worked clinically as an Attending Physician at all three of Asante’s Emergency Departments.
Dr. Milligan was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. He graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1997, and UCLA Emergency Medicine internship/residency in 2000. He also attended the University of Utah for his undergraduate studies and began practicing at Asante upon graduation. He and his wife, Jennifer, have four children: Sean, Jake, Molly and Danny. In his free time, he enjoys writing and spending quality time with his family in the outdoors and riding motorcycles.
