About the 2019 Hackathon
The Always Hacking in Philadelphia: The Consumer Consent Edition, presented by HSX MarketStreet is scheduled for May 31 - June 4, 2019.
For this year’s event, HSX MarketStreet has developed a consent and authentication module that hackers will be able to leverage during the event.  This consent and authentication module can be layered onto a new or existing product that will enable the end users identify to be authenticated and allow the user to consent to having their clinical data from the HealthShare Exchange Clinical Repository sent into the application.  This module will enable consumers to direct the transmission and exchange of their own health records into a medium of their choosing.  Hackers are encouraged to take advantage of these new connections and develop solutions that will utilize this module.

The final two days of the Hackathon will take place in conjunction with the 2019 Heatlhcare Innovation Mid-Atlantic Philadelphia Health IT Summit at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue on June 3 and 4, 2019.
The Hackathon winner will be announced at the Health IT Summit on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
The Challenge
The Hackathon will challenge participants to use exposed HSX MarketStreet APIs (application programming interfaces) to develop a technology solution that allows patients to direct the transmission of their clinical information.  This could include an application allowing the consumers to pull their records onto their own devices, to direct the transfer of their records to an application used by their providers, to send their data into a health or wellness application that will use the clinical data to enhance their service, and more.
Participants are encouraged to be creative and to integrate their solutions with existing patient care platforms.  The primary focus of this year’s Hackathon is for teams to build consumer-directed solutions that will take advantage of HSX MarketStreet’s new consent and authentication module.  Solutions can include patient-facing, provider-involved, or payer-based functionality, but must incorporate the consented exchange of a patient's clinical data.
Industry experts will judge the solutions across a number of factors, including usability, creativity, implementation feasibility, and market value.
About the Data Set
For the hackathon, HSX MarketStreet will open its APIs to the hackers as a pathway to innovation.
This will make available to the hackers an invaluable resource: a database of (de-identified) patient data representative of the health status of millions across the Greater Philadelphia/Delaware Valley region” to “This will make available to the hackers an invaluable resource: a database of fake patient data (no PHI) representative of the health status of millions across the Greater Philadelphia/Delaware Valley region.  Hackers will be presented with a patient roster that includes demographic information, encounter information, medications, conditions, procedures, treating physicians, and many more factors.  A library of HSX MarketStreet APIs will be made available to the hackers to determine how the data can be retrieved.
Hackathon participants will use this data and the HSX MarketStreet APIs to create tools to increase patient access to their information, facilitate the exchange of information among treatment and care coordination partners, and empower consumers to improve their health and care management.
