Claudio Ternieden is the Executive Director of the Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA), a nonprofit trade association representing manufacturers and technology providers in the water and wastewater sector. In his current role, Ternieden leads the association’s advocacy and strategic efforts, working with members, policymakers, and regulatory agencies to address key issues like infrastructure investment, procurement policy, environmental regulation, and emerging technologies in the water and wastewater equipment field.
Before joining WWEMA, Ternieden brought extensive experience from across the water and environmental policy landscape. He previously served as Chief Policy Officer at the Water Environment Federation (WEF), where he led the federation’s regulatory and legislative strategy on issues impacting the water sector. His background also includes leadership roles at Concurrent Technologies Corporation, the Water Environment Research Foundation, and the American Association of Airport Executives. Additionally, he has been detailed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and worked on wastewater and drinking water programs with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, underscoring his breadth of experience in both federal and state policy arenas.
Throughout his career, Ternieden has served on numerous environmental and public policy advisory committees and task forces, and he has authored or co-authored multiple articles on environmental policy and management. His work has focused on advancing practical, science-based solutions that support public health, environmental protection, and the competitiveness of technology providers.
Claudio has an environmental law degree from Pace University School of Law (White Plains, NY), a master’s degree in public policy from George Mason University (Arlington, VA), and a bachelor’s degree from Concordia College (Bronxville, NY).
