Early studies have reported various electrolyte abnormalities in patients who progress to the severe form of COVID-19. This talk will discuss COVID-19 and its impact on electrolyte homeostasis in the critically ill patient. We will describe the common electrolyte abnormalities, their pathophysiology and treatment recommendations. We will also describe a whole blood point-of-care analyzer for measuring electrolytes, including ionized magnesium.
