Sandy Gibson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Associate Professor in the Department of Counselor Education at the College of New Jersey (TCNJ). She served for six years as a substance abuse counselor in a community-based agency that offered intensive day and outpatient treatment, as well as inpatient detox and methadone maintenance programs. Upon completion of her PhD in social work, Gibson became a Study Director at Temple University’s Institute for Survey Research, where she worked for six years writing and directing federal research studies, securing over $2 million in addiction-related research grants. Gibson joined TCNJ in 2010, where she teaches research methods and several addiction-related courses. She teaches addictions counseling in Portugal every summer with extensive site visits to expose students to alternative policies in action.
