Counseling/Clinical Strategies
Description
While the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and other authorities have always affirmed the importance of spirituality in treatment of use disorders, few if any formal models exist to integrate spirituality into multidimensional assessment and treatment. The ASAM Criteria (2013) states, “By assessing if and when spirituality has been meaningful for the individual in any or all of the assessment dimensions, strengths, skills, and resources can be identified to be incorporated into the service plan.” This training prepares clinical leaders and practitioners to incorporate spiritual assessment using the ASAM framework in order to integrate spirituality into clinical care.
