Artificial Intelligence is now being widely used for enhanced tomography to identity cellular changes indicative of the onset of the development of growths before tumors form in the body. Machine Learning is now widely used in clinical decision support where it is employed to mine vast data lakes of past clinical decisions to predict, rather than guess, at the best possible patient outcomes following the most statistically advantageous course of treatment. Personalized medicine is a growing area of research and treatment and makes extensive use of AI and ML technology. Evidence-based medicine and increased interoperability of clinical systems are helping to drive improvements in results. But as healthcare moves towards even greater reliance upon technology, and more PHI data is stored and mined on all of us in order to improve treatments, what should we be concerned about from a privacy and security perspective? As automation plays a bigger role, what checks and balances do we need to put in place?
