Description
Expressive arts therapy is an approach to healing with roots in indigenous cultures and a rich history of evolution, within modalities such as Jungian, person-centered, and Gestalt psychotherapies. Defined by its emphasis on the multi-modal process of healing (exploring many combinations for creativity rather than relying on just one art form), the strategy of expressive arts psychotherapy can prove useful to trauma-focused, neurologically-informed therapists practicing in a variety of settings. In this session, participants explore how and why expressive arts can empower clinical professional to think creatively and help clients to heal the brain and the soul. Learn how to assist clients transform the deep wounds of shame into fruitful, post-traumatic growth with expressive arts approaches.
Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Describe the origins of expressive arts therapy.
- Define expressive arts therapy and explain its nature as a multi-modal, multi-art process.
- Explain the relevance of using expressive arts therapy in a variety of clinical settings aimed to promote recovery, specifically as a trauma focused, neurologically informed pathway for healing shame.
