Name
W12 - Six Reasons to Understand and Treat Dissociation (1.5 CE)
Date & Time
Saturday, October 14, 2017, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Description

Dissociation is defined in many ways in the literature, leading to confusion about what it is and how to treat it effectively. In this workshop, we will explore why it is essential to assess for and treat serious dissociation in chronically traumatized individuals. Participants will learn how to recognize subtle signs and symptoms, and to ask specific questions of the client to assess for dissociation. Explore the ways in which dissociation can underlie many other problems, such as repeated relapses, self-harm, suicidality, and relational difficulties. The session includes an overview of how to address dissociation in a step-wise, integrative way, based on current best practices.

Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Define at least three different experiences that are labeled as dissociation.
  • Name at least five symptoms that are specific to dissociation.
  • Summarize an integrative treatment approach for clients who have severe dissociation.
