Behavioral healthcare is a rapidly growing field. As more funding has become available, many new programs have opened, existing centers have expanded, and access to care has increased. Concurrent with this growth, however, have been ethical concerns as programs rapidly transform.
 
Owners and operators are concerned about competing with organizations that engage in patient brokering, misrepresentation in marketing, overreliance on drug testing, and inaccurate or fraudulent financial and outcomes data. Reputable providers face ethical dilemmas as they balance growth and investment opportunities on one hand with providing effective and efficient patient care on the other. Andrew Spanswick
Chairman/CEO, KLEAN Treatment Centers
 
Andrew Spanswick is the Chairman and CEO of White Rabbit Partners, Inc., which has endeavors in Healthcare, Media and Financing. The company currently operates in four states and runs seven facilities under the brand KLEAN Treatment Centers.
BHC Financial was founded in 2014 by Mr. Spanswick and is partnered with Choice Bank out of Germany and Mapplepoint Investments from NYC. The Specialty Lending Company provides factoring and back office services for companies in behavioral healthcare.
Mr. Spanswick is host of KLEAN News and has appeared at many television and live events.
He is on the BOD’s of two other privately held health-related businesses and is Founder of KLEAN Café, Inc., a non-profit with a mission to provide job training and scholarship funds for people suffering from mental illness and substance abuse.
A 28-year veteran manager and owner of behavioral health hospitals and services, he began his career in New Orleans, LA. After receiving his MSW in Clinical Mental Health from Tulane University, he worked in multiple inpatient psychiatric settings as Director of Social Services. In 1994, he entered the MHA Program at Tulane while also founding Paradym Health Systems, Inc. (PHS), a psychiatric hospital management company, with Dr. Alan Jason Coe as partner.
PHS engaged in the development, operation and oversight of "distinct part" inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units placed in community and private hospitals throughout the Gulf South. Mr. Spanswick managed company operations and business development. In five years, PHS grew from two to nine psychiatric units and over 200 managed beds. As CEO, he added key personnel to ensure clinical, fiscal and regulatory oversight and each unit passed all JCAHO and State surveys with 100% compliance.
Mr. Spanswick has participated in several major technology and entertainment projects, arranging over $500 million in equity and senior debt through private equity and institutional financing entities.
 
Zachary Rothenberg
Partner, Nelson Hardiman, LLP
 
Zachary Rothenberg is a partner at Nelson Hardiman, LLP, a California based healthcare specialty law firm. Mr. Rothenberg has spent more than a decade litigating business disputes for clients in the entertainment, professional services, financial services, marketing, and manufacturing industries. As a partner at Nelson Hardiman, he is able to leverage his broad knowledge of industries and business models when advising healthcare clients. His practice focuses primarily on litigating healthcare industry business disputes.
In the behavioral health space, Mr. Rothenberg has litigated out-of-network and in-network reimbursement cases on behalf of drug rehabilitation facilities. He has also advised on labor and employment defense matters including those related to racial discrimination, wrongful termination, wage & hour disputes and retaliation. Clients have come to rely on his insight regarding employee handbooks and labor code issues. He also regularly counsels clients on special investigation audits and advises on land use, advocating for clients where administrative actions challenge zoning laws, attempting to prevent facilities from operating in their existing location.
Jim Kreitler
CEO, Calvary Healing Center
 
Born in New York City and raised in Aberdeen, New Jersey, Jim Kreitler earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Dayton. He then pursued a master’s in addiction counseling from Grand Canyon University and is a Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (LASAC) in the state of Arizona. Kreitler began his own personal recovery journey in 1998. Ten years later, he retired from a 28-year career to seek his calling to help addicted people.
As a person whose life was saved by treatment and subsequent recovery, he knows both sides: the devastation of the disorder and the awesomeness of recovery. On the job, he loves interacting with patients, both current ones and those who return to share stories about their success in recovery. “I believe in everyone’s ability to recover, and I am honored to be a part of that transformation,” he says.
 
Elbert Farmer 
Intake and Billing Coordinator, TLC Treatment Center
 
Elbert Farmer has a personal connection to Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Mr. Farmer has been on both sides and as a result of the changes he has made he is committed to helping others. Mr. Farmer currently works with families helping others get into treatment as an Intake Coordinator with Total Life Change (TLC)  Treatment Center. With a successful 9 years in recovery, Mr. Farmer is very passionate about people receiving the proper help and continues to give back by being of service to anyone that calls and asks for help.
