Robert P. Hirten, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine and a gastroenterologist at the Susan and Leonard Feinstein Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. He specializes in the care of patients with gastrointestinal conditions with a focus on ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Dr. Hirten received specialized training in the care of patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease as The Daniel and Jane Present-Andrew Levison Advanced Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Currently he serves as the Secretary of the New York Crohn’s and Colitis Organization and is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology Training Committee. His current research interests include the study of stress and its impact on inflammatory bowel disease as well as the application of wearable device technology in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis related research. His research and work has been presented at national and international conferences and been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and textbooks.
