Jonathan Borrill, CTO of Anritsu’s Test and Measurement Company shares some thoughts on the Green issues for Telecoms industry. The telecoms industry needs to think beyond only the power efficiency of network equipment component/product/systems, and pay close attention to the wider topics of architecture design, protocols and services, when addressing environmental power consumption concerns. The whole industry needs to give our society an ‘end to end’ way to reduce the volume of data we use (less bits of data being required). It’s not only to reduce the ‘power per bit’ that is required to reduce carbon footprints at the top level (service level). New initiatives such as @IOWN Global Forum and @NGMN Alliance are investigating these topics, to help guide the industry. They are looking at designs, technologies, and measurement KPI’s that can contribute to reducing environmental impact of our increased use of data centers and telecoms networks in our daily lives. Here in Anritsu we are actively using our technologies to support these green technology initiatives. #anritsu #5G #environmental #sustainability #iown #ngmn

Jonathan Borrill, CTO of Anritsu’s Test and Measurement Company shares some thoughts on the Impact of AI/ML (Artificial intelligence/Machine Learning). Many future applications are seen for AI, and some can be seen as both good and bad, helping improve efficiency but also replacing people’s jobs/skills. Fundamental to this societal challenge is the question of “how can I trust AI, if it is affecting directly my life and those around me?”.  Trust is a key factor for society. People are asking how can we be sure of fairness, bias and trustworthiness when AI/ML comes deeper into our lives? We must think beyond the current technical possibilities of AI, and develop ways to ensure trust of AI (such as monitoring, approval and certification technologies) that are transparent to all and properly suited to meet this society need. Much research and analysis is required in the area of ‘training AI’, to understand the features of the data sets we use and how we manage their inherent bias, and to monitor the outcomes. Here in Anritsu we can play an important role in ensuring trust by utilizing our different technologies. #anritsu #5G #AI

To better serve our customers, #Anritsu has integrated its Texas and California service centers into one centralized location in Morgan Hill, CA. This location’s much larger footprint expands our service capabilities, having a direct impact on customer support. The integration of the two service centers also allows for more efficient communication with other Anritsu teams, further expediting customer units in service. #TestandMeasurement #5G #Micorwave #RF #VNA #LTE

Jonathan Borrill, CTO of Anritsu’s Test and Measurement Company shares some thoughts on Beyond 5G: Use Cases and societal benefits. In the past four decades wireless communications have been a key part of global technology expansion, starting as voice/messaging between people, and then evolved to ‘internet access’ and sharing of content together with social networks. In the next decades we expect global sustainability to become a key objective for how we align communications technology to the wider needs of society: • Environmental sustainability (e.g. reducing carbon footprint),  • Societal sustainability (provide fair and open access for all),  • Economic sustainability (ensure adequate profit to maintain the eco-system) 6G technology should go beyond data rates and latencies, advancing with a new way of thinking for sustainability. This will influence how we design, install and operate data centre networks and how we connect globally through wireless and optical telecom networks. In addition, we should harness the power of data analytics and digital twins to efficiently test, install and manage these networks, data centres, and the services we use on them, in a responsible and sustainable way. Here in Anritsu we are proud to be able to contribute our knowledge into this societal challenge. #anritsu #5G #6G #sustainability
