The healthcare industry only makes big significant changes in response to regulation, and we have never had a regulation quite like the CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Rule. Its stated purpose is to “unleash innovation” and it does this by giving patients the authority for 3rd parties to have access to their health information. The expectation is this will catalyze the same disruptive forces that have revolutionized retail and banking – and created entirely new categories of companies like Google and Facebook. During this presentation, we will discuss four different perspectives on how organizations can approach the CMS Rule: technical compliance, holistic compliance, business optimization and digital transformation. We will address the merits of each approach and make a case for organizations to accelerate their digital transformation to disrupt themselves before they are disrupted.
