Name
Speak Up: Identifying Signs of Abuse and Advocating for Our Most Vulnerable Populations
Date & Time
Thursday, July 21, 2022, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Alyssa Aberle
Description

Objectives:

  • Identify signs of abuse and neglect for children, seniors, and patients with special needs
  • Discuss the role of the dental hygienist in assessing and investigating pertinent findings
  • Understand mandated reporter laws and how to report cases of possible abuse or neglect

No dental hygienist ever wants to make that call - the call to report suspected abuse or neglect. But, it is our duty to step up and speak up for those who can't speak up for themselves. Dental hygienists often feel unprepared or ill equipped to identify signs of abuse and neglect, and report them to the appropriate authorities. In this course, dental hygienists will gain confidence in their recognition of these signs and understand the laws about when it is necessary to report. Your confidence could save a life.
