Description

Objectives:

  • Suggest different techniques and products to your patient so they will be more likely to accept restorative and preventive procedures.
  • Explain the implication of common chronic disease on geriatric oral health
  • Describe how various improvements to current dental products can improve the patient’s oral health

The purpose of this course is to provide dental professionals with information regarding oral manifestations of the aging process and their relationship with oral and systemic health to ensure the maintenance of optimum quality of life in older patients.

Dental statistics show today’s “senior” dental patients are a growing part of a dental practice. For some dental staff these patients are a joy and others a challenge to treat.

“Senior patients” have a different outlook regarding dentistry than their parents. These individuals do not believe they have to lose their teeth to the aging process. Many have the financial means to invest in their dental treatment but only if, they feel comfortable with the care and guidance from their dental team. These expectations can be challenging to any team member. The ability of the dentist and staff to navigate thru a series of medical conditions, medication therapies and personal needs at times can be overwhelming.
