8:00 AM - 12:00 PMEnergy Efficient Building ConstructionIf you have been in the fire service for more than five years this class is a MUST for you to stay alive in this modern environment! This class features a concentrated examination of current and future trends and methods in modern building construction with an emphasis on the green construction building materials, modern building construction methods, risk assessment, engineered structural and construction systems, and their direct relationship on structural firefighting operations. Most of the material in this program is not common knowledge to fire service personnel. This groundbreaking and informative program will utilize extensive multimedia materials to reinforce course content and subject areas.
8:00 AM - 5:00 PMBrain, Student and Curriculum: The How, How To and How Much of Curriculum DeliveryThe modern student requires more than just an instructor who reads from a slide presentation. Through a lecture-based presentation and breakout discussion groups, participants will look at the learning process and how to apply these ideas to their own classrooms. By the end of the program, participants should have an understanding of how to enrich their teaching for better understanding and retention. They should also be able to recognize the needs of the different student types within the class. These understandings and abilities should be transferable to both the formal and informal learning environment.
8:00 AM - 5:00 PMNon-Fire Company Drills in Acquired StructuresThis program will explain how to properly inspect and train in acquired structures using non-fire scenarios. Training subjects including utility emergencies, size-up, mask confidence, building construction, ventilation, overhaul, RIT drills, and other training topics will be presented. Also being discussed will be producing the proper paperwork, as well as reviewing the NFPA 1403 standard as a tool to assist in safely preparing the structure. This course will present training scenarios, from small scale to more complex, going from no damage to the building and working up to the type of drills that will cause the most damage to the building.

8:30 AM - 12:00 PMThe Art of Reading Smoke 2

Do you want to learn how to predict where the fire is, where it is going, and how long it will take? The three-step Reading Smoke process allows you to do so effectively. Identify the key attributes of volume, velocity, density and color. Attendees will return to their departments with an increased skill in reading smoke to recognize and predict fire behavior, increased skill in recognition primed decision-making as the first due, and a more educated and productive approach to the fireground.
