Joon has over 20 years of extensive healthcare management experience, ranging from day-to-day healthcare operations with Kaiser Permanente to consulting and advising health plans, physician groups, and hospitals on optimizing their value-based care propositions to being a managing partner and senior executive for a start-up Medicare Advantage health plan. Currently, Joon serves as the Chief Population Health Officer for Palomar Health. In his capacity he is responsible for all aspects of the managed care line of business -- including contracting, operations, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, utilization management, care management, and building additional total care programs and infrastructure.
Prior to joining Palomar Health, Joon most recently served as the Chief Population Health Officer for Network Medical Management and for ApolloMed (NASDAQ:AMEH), where he oversaw population health operations and quality outcomes for 1.2M members, which spanned numerous counties in California as well as several other states. From 2016 to 2018, he served as Vice President of Operations for Population Health and Value Based Care for DaVita Medical Group in New Mexico. From 2009 to 2016, he ran kidney care operations for DaVita Healthcare Partners in Southern California.
Joon received his BA in Economics and BS in Molecular Cell Biology from UC Berkeley, and an MPH from UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He has served as a member-at-large and as an officer for the Boards of NM Care ACO, UCLA Health Policy and Management Alumni Association and for UCLA Public Health Alumni Association.
