Dr. Smith is the Chief Information Officer at Swope Health with expertise in health information systems management, project management of complex systems, and operational leadership. Combining a passion for coaching, mentoring, and continuous learning with extensive technical experience, he is committed to serving his community through enhanced efficiencies and improved access to healthcare.
A veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, Dr. Smith has held roles at Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center (where he was CIO), Truman Medical Centers, Datafile Technologies, DST Systems Inc., and University of low Hospitals and Clinics. He has also served as adjunct professor with Johnson County Community College and DeVry University, where he received the highest student evaluation rate of his peers for two years.
Dr. Smith holds a Doctorate of Health Administration from Capella University and an MBA from DeVry University, Keller Graduate School of Management. He has earned an MA in Educational Technology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City; an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Information Technology from Hamilton Business College; and a BS in Business Administration and Computer Science from Mississippi Valley State University. He also holds several professional certifications.
In 2011 Dr. Smith was awarded the Black Family Technology Awareness Association of Kansas City Award, which recognizes an exceptional technology professional within the African American community. He serves on the boards of Jackson County CASA, a court advocacy group for children, and his non-profit organization, Iron Men Ministry, which mentors young men in positive development and empowerment.
