Medical device security initiatives over the last decade have been instantiated through IT due to their characteristics as an edge computing device. As a result, healthcare organizations have had to take some time to understand the operational implications of applying traditional security methodologies when mitigating threats that may impact care delivery and patient safety. While this approach has yielded innovations in technology that baselines communications behavior, device configurations, and visibility into specialized network protocols, we still need to account for context from clinical and operational workflows.

As the ransomware problem grows and morphs over time, it’s becoming clear that traditional NAS systems and backup solutions are not equipped to provide the kind of rapid recovery that’s needed to sustain business operations.
A proactive stance towards ransomware should include looking at file data platforms that offer robust detection and recovery capabilities at scale today and quickly adding new advanced protection features without expensive retrofitting existing infrastructure.
During this session Russ Kennedy, Nasuni Chief Product Officer, will share:
•    How to best protect files from attacks with immutable storage
•    How to detect live attacks as they happen and pinpoint the exact user and location
•    The importance of quick recovery times to minimize downtime and avoid paying attackers

Healthcare is one of 16 industries identified as being critical to the United States under Presidential Policy Directive / PPD21 in 2013 by President Obama. The directive calls for efforts to 'strengthen the security and resilience of US critical infrastructure against both physical and cyber threats’. Despite this, healthcare data breaches hit all-time high in 2021, impacting 45M people according to Critical Insights. That’s up from 34 million in 2020 and 14 million in 2018, marking a 300% rise.

But breaches are only part of the problem. Since COVID, US critical infrastructure has seen a 600% rise in ransomware attacks impacting the availability of oil and gas, healthcare and other vital services. Despite nearly a decade to improve resiliency and security since PPD21, it's obvious that we have a long journey in front of us. What does healthcare need to finally become ressilient?
