Schedule At-A-Glance

NOTE: All Times are Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM (EDT)

As service providers, cable MSOs and telcos, look at upcoming 25G and 50G PON implementations, the question becomes what are the architectural models to consider for achieving cost-effective network deployments? In this roundtable discussion, you will get to hear from a panel of experts on operational issues of what it will take to deploy new PON architecture to serve an array of consumers and businesses. We will consider what this means for traditional telcos with an embedded PON base and cable MSOs considering PON for Greenfield and Brownfield environments.

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM (EDT)

Build America, Buy America (BABA) rules apply to several government broadband funding programs, including the BEAD program (Broadband Equity Access and Deployment).  The goals of BABA are simple – to maximize the amount to which this funding supports US-based manufacturing.  The implementation of these rules, however, is anything but simple.  Which items are subject to these restrictions?  Do all components of an item need to be manufactured in the US?  How can a purchaser tell if an item complies with the rules?  In this round table, participants will discuss the latest developments in BABA implementation, how manufacturers are meeting the challenge, and what network operators and constructors need to know in order to be successful.

Cable operators are at a crossroads: extend the life of existing coax or go all fiber? Hear industry experts talk about their plans.

PON is coming on strong for Cable Access, but there are legitimate questions about technology choices to start, methods to evolve through one to the other, and use cases.  In this presentation we talk about the different flavor of technologies, and the deployment aspect that is unique to cable access, including operational cycles for outside plant remote OLTs.  Finally we discuss how PON can be used to maintain and gain back residential customers and beyond residential, how to grow segments of business services where MSO's are not dominant.  This use cases description will allow network planners to assess decisions early in the PON planning stages toward a stable long lasting optical access network.

1:30 PM - 2:00 PM (EDT)

Perpetual goals of service providers are to reduce fiber test cost and time during Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) for broadband services installation, activation or troubleshooting. Several methods and solutions are traditionally used for FTTP fiber tests. The traditional methods and solutions also impact the customer experience and efficient use of technician resource pools. This QuickChat provides an overview of traditional FTTP test methodologies and solutions, outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each in helping to address service provider goals. This QuickChat also discusses alternative and emerging solutions offering enhanced features that improve service providers’ ability to better address the goals.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (EDT)

While XGS-PON (10G) is fiber broadband’s latest standard, momentum for 25, 50, and 100G PON is growing. During this panel, we’ll discuss what lies ahead.
